sup, I couldn't write yesterday because I had no time and I had no connections to establish it after writing. so for today I'll talk about virtual memory in Win9x and WinNT. letting Windows manage your virtual memory has influence on your system performance because amount that is provided for virtual memory changes so it affects CPU performance. There is a way of managing virtual memory manually and it's shown below:
Move all files in that partition to another partition, Scan the partition than defrag it. restart the system and right click on my computer, than chose Proprieties. chose Virtual memory from Performance tab.

set your memory as shown above. setting swap file size depends on your physical memory. if you have 32Mb ram set maximum and minimum size of your swap file to 80Mb. if you have 64 set it to 160. For x Mb of physical memory, you most have 2.5x Mb virtual memory in one of your partitions. that's about it.

I don’t know what to write for today, but Desktop is a good topic isn't it. yeah desktop. Many people like to keep their desktop clean and empty from shortcuts and icons and others prefer using the Pc as a tool and don’t care about desktop. So this topic is specially for the first group. Have you ever faced an error in explorer and restarting it after that error? What is explorer? Actually explorer is a shell. What is shell? Well shell is a program that is responsible for managing desktop or managing the PC at all. Explorer is simply the default shell in win95/98 and winNT. That’s it. So we can simply change this shell into another. Progman in win3.1 is an example. But its not powerful enough to replace the explorer. There are several other shell like Geoshell, Talisman, LiteStep and Darksetp. My favorite shell used to LiteStep but I’ve changed my opinion only because of my system memory. I needed a lighter shell and after a few month looking for the best and lighter shell at the same time, I found out that Explorer is a suitable shell for me. That’s why I went for expanding this shell without increasing amount of the memory. I found out that changing icons doesn’t have any influence to the amount of memory. so I downloaded Icon Packager and changed windows Icons. Than I went for a light background, well I made a 300 by 300 background with Photshop5 and the result was cool. The system was as fast as before but with a good look. I changed the appearance of the windows, but I didn’t use any programs for it. I just changed the colors without using Window blinds. if you are looking for a free and light program to replace Window Blind, eFX is my chose, go for it it's free. Take a look at what I did.

Linux on Laptop, We'll talk about this today. did you know
that most of Linux distributions are not compatible with Laptops? yeah I didn't
know that and I bought about 6 distributions and they didn't work on my laptop
first. after a few weeks of investigation I found out that slack ware is most
suitable Linux distribution for Laptops. but I couldn't find this package here
in UAE. I was going to forget about Linux on my Twinhead laptop. I installed
linux from winLinux distribution to Redhat, but system frizzed during scanning
PCMCIA socket. I tried to start the system without cards, but I the same problem
was occurring. I asked a friend about this and after a week I received this
email. I'll paste the Email here. ..
I've
had this problem on a twinhead laptop before. The problem occurs when
the PCMCIA module does an interrupt scan (see section 3.3 of the
PCMCIA howto).
You
can fix it by adding "do_scan=0" to the PCIC_OPTS definition in the
PCMCIA startup script.
There is another method described in the PCMCIA howto, that requires you to know on which interrupt the problem is occuring. I never bothered to figure that out - I just went with the do_scan=0 and everything was fine.
After this I installed Linux again and everything was fine. my dream came true and I was able to use linux on my laptop.

It's about a month and I'm working on my new Pc. It's not Athlon 1000 Mhz, nor does it have 256 Mb Ram. It's a simple Pentium 133 with 32 Mb. I bought it specially for my favorite OS Linux. I've installed 5 different Linux distributions including Storm, Red hat, Corel, Win Linux and my favorite Linux Package, mandrake. well all installations were a bit tricky and they had their particular problems. But things were good with mandrake and it provides all I need from basic packages to development packages. well after installation I was surprised when I saw my favorite browser Netscape communicator the default browser. than it took about 2 hours to get connected to the web. configuring modem was a bit tricky as well as DNS setting. but after that when I surfed the web. I was disappointed because of Netscape crashing all the time. than I checked Netscape site for an update or a stable browser and I found it. its Mozilla or Netscape 6. its the best browser I've ever seen. fast and stable. also its compatible with WC3 standard or its the only browser that provides these requirements. I made it so long. sorry guys but I found it useful and I wanted to tell you about this experiment. Visit http://mozilla.org and check this browser out. there is a version for windows 32 platforms
